Reading a Hypertext Novel

For my graduate course, Writing for Electronic Communities, we have been looking at hypertext.  This week’s assignment was to read “The Unknown”.  The links lead to separate stories and episodes, musings on writers and writing, linguists, a letter, just stuff.  I needed to develop a reading strategy that would allow me to get through some of the text.

Though reading was difficult, I think writing in hypertext would be an interesting task.  Some of the material that is usually deleted because it is off topic or tangential could be included as a link.  Some of the material that turns up in my journal as reflection on the writing process could also be included.  Some of the background material that may have led me to writing could also be included.  I think it would be a challenge to try to create something like this, but I might be far too distracted to feel like that it would be a completed work or a unit.

I would love to know how others who have attempted to write in this manner have found the process.
