Today is March 20th and I have been on the road for 6 days. During this time, I have changed two time zones. This should not be a big deal, but I am finding that the older the body gets, the longer it takes to adjust. Daylight savings time began March 9th. It was difficult to that loss of an hour in the morning with the alarm going off at 5:45 am which felt like 4:45 am. So I was adjusting to this loss of an hour for about 5 days before I left NJ. Then we crossed into Central time where the 5:45 am I had adjusted to was now really 4:45 am.
RV time dictates that I don’t know 5:45 am or 4:45 am, but 7:45 or later. Johnnie and I just don’t get on the road too early. Besides, the RV seems to create its own time. Sometimes, it stands still and we can get lost in the moment. Other times, time speeds up, usually at the end of the trip when we are trying to savor the last few days, hours, and minutes away.
Anyway, the body was trying to adjust to the new time. Yesterday, we crossed into Mountain time and it got an hour earlier still. Saturday, we move into Pacific Time and it gets an hour earlier still!!!
So, I’ve given up on clocks for the next few days. I will get up in the morning and eat breakfast. When the body gets hungry again, I will have lunch. Dinner will be after it gets dark and the body is hungry again. Time for bed will be when I fall asleep. This seems to be the natural rhythm of things. Eventually I will catch up with the clock. Or, as is usually the case, I will have a hard time adjusting when this vacation is over and I have to go back to work. In the meantime, I am on RV time and loving it!
